Jake had sort of figured as much. He nodded a little, closing his eyes over again.

"I care about you regardless," he breathed. "Discussion or no discussion, reciprocation or not. Friends, lovers, anything in between or beyond-- I." He opened his eyes, glanced briefly at Dirk, then away, and hugged him closer. "I'd be really lost without you in my life."

He considered that for a moment, quiet. Eventually, he smiled a little.

"Well it shouldn't have to, really. You're still Dirk Strider, I'm still Jake English... we don't really need further explanation, do we?" Basically fuck the police labels were lame. Even if he sort of would like the opportunity to call Dirk his boyfriend at some point in life.

Jake smiled, at that. All right, they could make this work. He shifted, moving inward until he was able to press his lips to Dirk's throat a few times.

He scraped his teeth gently against Dirk's throat, closing his lips around the skin and sucking. Mine, he wanted to say, but didn't. He left a faint mark in a place it was hard to see easily-- it shouldn't be a problem at work. He shifted to allow Dirk's hands under his shirt, slipping his fingertips into the waistband of Dirk's pants in the meantime. Welp.

Sex was what Dirk knew. Sex was what they'd decided, mutually, to base their relationship around. It was comfortable. Words weren't, at that point. Jake thought maybe he could have been ready for that conversation, but Dirk clearly wasn't, so... They'd stick to what they knew. What they were comfortable with. He chuckled a little, biting at Dirk's skin again and bringing his hands forward to unbutton the blonde's jeans. He snickered at the orange boxers underneath.

Obediently, Jake raised his arms to let Dirk pull his shirt off. His hands went immediately back to his pantsfront, then, palming at his crotch almost idly.

Dirk please. You're fucking adorable. Jake snickered softly, kneading the heel of his hand gently into Dirk's loins while the blonde fussed with his shorts. In the meantime, he peppered kisses all about Dirk's face and neck and shoulders.

Jake shifted, lifting his hips to allow his shorts to be tugged down, and then pulling a little on Dirk's.

Jake snickered and laughed, pulling Dirk to him to kiss him squarely before he let him go.

"Sure," he said.

Sitting on his couch bare-ass naked, except for the shorts and boxers around his ankles (and he was still wearing his boots, comically) was not nearly as awkward as it probably should have been. When Dirk returned with supplies and kisses, Jake was chuckling, feeding his fingers backward into Dirk's hair.

"How are we doing this," he asked.

Jesus Christ why was that so cute. Dirk please. He bit his lip at the suggestion, lifting his feet to let Dirk disrobe him a little easier. He reached out and framed the blonde's face with his hands, tipping it upward so he could kiss him.

"I'd like that."

Jake made a pleased little sound at that and scooted himself to the edge of the couch to fully engulf Dirk in his arms, sliding his hands downward and under the hem of his shirt. Dirk was still wearing far too many articles of clothing.

One is far too many. He tossed Dirk's shirt along onto the table with his own, setting to trailing kisses down from his lips to his collarbone.
