He released the hand of the severed arm quickly, tying more strips of the fabric of his mangled shirt around the stump of his arm to staunch the blood flow. Holy shit, there was so much of it. He had been expecting that, but it was one thing to anticipate something and another thing entirely to actually witness it. He wrapped the stump carefully with the cleaner areas of the fabric, tying it off. Blood soaked it and dripped from it before he was finished, but he didn't want to just leave it uncovered.

"Come on, we need to get you somewhere safe where I can clean that up properly," he said. He paused, administering the comfort he'd wanted to moments before by gently pulling Jake forward and kissing his forehead. "I'm gonna take care of you, don't worry."
