"No--" his heart leapt into his throat and he shook Jake's shoulders a little. "No-- Jake--" He sucked in a breath and then stopped, reaching out with one hand to paw at the islander's face, pale and slack. He swallowed, shaking his head. "Jake--" He didn't even realize he was bowing forward into his shoulder and sobbing outright. "Jake, please, Jake-- I love you--"
