He didn't quite make a sound so much as he exhaled, rather emphatically, like a huff, sort of nuzzling his way against Jake in return. Okay so maybe he wanted some fucking cuddles right then, sue him. He sat up a moment later and looked Jake over.

It was safe, and Dirk was pretty sure he could raid surrounding offices within the building for food, at least for a few days. Amputation was a recovery period of six weeks, but they couldn't stay still for that long. They had to get to his brother's place, if even there was still safe. He really needed to try calling him again. They'd been traveling for long enough that maybe he'd get reception. Maybe one of the towers was still functioning.
