Jake's shoulders stayed sort of rigid as they walked, and he fell almost entirely silent, chuckling weakly. He was relatively certain Dirk was kidding, but... Jesus, what if he wasn't? What if he'd been planning to get physical, to really be in a relationship? He felt sort of sick.

"Y--yeah." He squeeze Dirk's hand again and smiled a bit over his shoulder at him. After a moment, his eyebrows came together and he slowed to a stop, focusing on something else.

"You're..." A pause. "...really little and cute, great galloping gobblygooks."

His laughter was really unbecoming of a boy. It was downright girlish. But he didn't really care, because wow, Dirk was fucking cute as hell. He squeezed his hand again, brought it to his face and kissed his knuckles.

"Keep telling yourself that."

Still holding a light grip on Dirk's hand as he rolled onto his toes, Jake's breath left him in a slow sigh and he leaned into the blonde's lips. He felt like he was melting.

Pressing forward a little harder for a brief second, Jake pulled away and smiled, shy and red-faced.

"...Well, that happened," he said quietly.

Holy wow. What a fucking cutie. Dirk was so much cuter in person than Jake ever would have thought. Like, wow. He was all freckly and pale and his eyes were a really gorgeous shade of topaz, and just wow. Jake reached out and set his hands on his shades, pausing.

"Can I...?"

Well Jake honestly didn't know if they were prescription. He'd have had a bit of an issue with someone taking his glasses off just to look at his eyes, so it was only polite to ask. But with the okay from Dirk, he pulled the shades away and curled his fingers around them, holding them close and smiling at Dirk's eyes, naked without the triangular protection.

"...wow," he breathed.

Jake kept his eyes open until Dirk's blurred together into one in front of him, and he chuckled into the blonde's lips.

"You became a cyclops," he said, still giggling.

"I did." Well if Dirk wasn't going to keep up the kissing, Jake certainly would. He craned his neck and tapped his lips to Dirk's, once, twice, three times. "But not right at first. So your eyes smooshed together into one and you were a cyclops."

Jake was giggling again.

"All right," he said, pecking Dirk's lips once more before sliding away from him, placing his shades back on his face.

Little kisses like that were really, really nice. Jake laced their fingers together and pivoted, moving along toward the house again with Dirk in tow.

Well isn't that just fucking adorable. Jake lead them back to the house in companionable silence, whistling after a while as they crested a hill and the house came into view. He paused, smiled over his shoulder and pointed.

"That's gram's house. My room's the big funny round thing to the east. You can stay there with me or I can get you your own room in gram's place."

Jake glanced over his shoulder and fixed Dirk with a sort of distantly thoughtful look. Knight in shining armor, was it? He opened his mouth, inhaled to say something, but thought better of it. His mouth slid shut again and a funny smile slid onto his lips.

"Yeah, all right. All you had to say was you were scared of the dark and I'd have known I'd have to protect you."
