Well isn't that just fucking adorable. Jake lead them back to the house in companionable silence, whistling after a while as they crested a hill and the house came into view. He paused, smiled over his shoulder and pointed.

"That's gram's house. My room's the big funny round thing to the east. You can stay there with me or I can get you your own room in gram's place."

Jake glanced over his shoulder and fixed Dirk with a sort of distantly thoughtful look. Knight in shining armor, was it? He opened his mouth, inhaled to say something, but thought better of it. His mouth slid shut again and a funny smile slid onto his lips.

"Yeah, all right. All you had to say was you were scared of the dark and I'd have known I'd have to protect you."

Jake let Dirk go ahead and waited for a moment, scuffing his boots against the ground. He bit his lip as he watched Dirk from behind, frowning thoughtfully around the expression. Really, he trusted Dirk more than anyone. If he could tell someone, it would be Dirk.

But if Dirk liked Jake as a boy...

He clicked his tongue and started after the blonde, deciding he'd sleep on it, at the very least.

"Still processing the sudden stud muffin on my island," he retorted, moving past Dirk to open the door with a comical flourish. "Welcome to the Casa de English. It's not much, but it's home."

"Wow, how are you even-- oop," he stepped forward to catch Dirk, shifting to stand at an angle that didn't immediately put Dirk's weight against his chest. It was an awkward way to stand.

Heat flared into Jake's face and he shifted to right Dirk, springing backwards like he'd been burned once the blonde was on his feet again.

"...sorry," he said, squirming a little where he stood.

"Ahah," Jake offered meekly. "Yeah, I'll, uh. Keep that in mind." He scratched the back of his neck and moved a little too quickly toward a door leading to a short flight of stairs. "This way."

Good gravy this was difficult. He didn't think this through very well. Jake's fingers went around Dirk's nearly instantaneously and he lead him to where he could leave his things, not quite making eye contact but definitely keeping the contact of their hands.

He really, really wanted to kiss Dirk again, but he didn't know where it would lead.

He kept his eyes looking away, and eventually closed them, bringing his hands up to rest on Dirk's wrists.

"I dunno," he offered truthfully. Because he didn't. He wasn't in pain, or danger, or anything that wouldn't pass, eventually, but... Jeez. He opened his eyes and stared downward, still unable to meet Dirk's eyes.

He finally brought his eyes up to Dirk's and stared for a long time, uncertain and maybe a little scared, until he closed the distance between them and kissed him. It was light, at first, chaste and careful.

He kept at it for a while, chaste little kisses, some lasting longer than others, and his stomach got all squirmy and his entire body just felt warm. He kept his eyes closed but pulled away slightly, resting his forehead on Dirk's.

"What if I had a secret," he asked softly. "Something I was scared to tell."

His face drew up in a taught line and he pulled away a little. The look on his face made him look smaller than he was.

"...I'm not so sure."

That pulled a strained smile out of him, and he turned his head to mirror the gesture, reaching down to take Dirk's hand.

"...trust me for a second?"
