His heart was seriously threatening to explode in his throat. Why couldn't they have made the realization that they were completely in love before Jake's cowardly ignorance had screwed them over? Before Dirk had decided he'd had enough? He whined, softly, pulled away from the kissing to just hide his face in Dirk's neck.

"No, no no no we can't do this."

In one of the only instances that Jake found he wanted to cry, of course he found himself unable. He had careened right through the tears station on a runaway train and was headed for a blinking sign that read "end of the line". So he just shook like he were having some sort of fit, instead.

"Hush your face, you wouldn't believe how much I want this. But it's-- we're not together. And we shouldn't be together. Neither of us are in a position to handle this properly right now, impulsive decisions are not going to do us any favors."

Jake pressed his forehead into Dirk's collarbone and sighed, letting his hand in his hair soothe him slowly.

"Neither of us have any kind of self-control."

"Hush your flattering face," Jake murmured, chuckling.

He made a disgruntled sound, but quietly appreciated the fuck of the affection.

"Oh-- pffft, you are too much." Jake's face burned scarlet again, and he kept his eyes anywhere but Dirk's face, embarrassed.

"Mmm. Sometimes."

Jake sighed a touch, gathering the smaller male's shoulders.

"It's not your fault that I didn't know how to tell you."

His arms remained around Dirk's shoulders, and he scritched lightly at the base of Dirk's hairline. Comfortable silence fell over them.

Jake hadn't quite dozed off, but he was quiet. When Dirk piped up, he chuckled.

"I like that idea."

Jake chuckled, always amused by Dirk's specibus and his rapping. He retrieved his own mask and as he stood, reached out to take the sides of Dirk's, tapping their foreheads together through the respirators. His eyes were closed.

Jake squawked, tipping over backwards but counterbalancing before he fell completely, flailing awkwardly and scrabbling after Dirk, shouting.

"You slimy cheating git! Get back here!!" Ah, it was good to have friends.
