This is a generic Jakepost to reply to. Because the meme post was all Jake and has some inconceivable amount of comments now so it doesn't like to load. Have at, my lovelies.
Jake tensed where he sat and squeezed Dirk's hand briefly, losing pretty much all of the color to his face and letting go of Dirk's hand. Jade stepped to the side of his chair and he scooted it backward, impressively calm as he stood and walked out of the kitchen.
Jade turned a quirked eyebrow at Dirk.
"Effective," she offered. "Did you know that was going to upset him enough to make him go get it over with, or was that just dumb luck?"
She laughed quietly, circling around Jake's chair and settling herself in it.
"He won't be upset with you for it," she admonished. "He'd have been miserable and nauseous for the rest of the night and probably not slept well or at all if he'd left it as is." She waved a hand dismissively. "He's had a nervous stomach since he was a baby, it happens. Did he wake up ruffled?" She knew full well he was upset about something involving Dirk-- the fact that he hadn't even given an answer before he left to be sick told her that in neon blinking letters. But he'd looked tired, too, so there was a high chance he'd dozed off and woken up frazzled, which was an easy excuse for his nervous episode.
"Nightmares are less common with him, but still more than enough for an upset. He probably got on a topic in his head he wasn't settled with, be it school or something else-- his thought processes make little to no sense on good days --and tried to sleep off the anxiety but just made it worse."
"Poppycock," she said. "Jake is a bit of a delicate creature for all his rash and brazen attitude misleads. Most people don't know about his nerves because he usually manages to hide them pretty well. I'm sorry if this is awkward for you given the casual nature of you two's relationship."
"Not particularly. He's better off purging his system than laying around being miserable." She caught him watching the door and smiled. "...he'll probably be a little while, though."
"Well the bathroom's just down the hall," she offered, joking. She paused, and frowned. "Though I'm really not sure if he'd be really embarrassed if you went down there or really touched. He's hard to figure sometimes." She waved a hand through the air again. "But in all seriousness, you saw what he ate. Nerves probably won't let him keep any of it."
"All things considered I'd be surprised if you hadn't." She picked up the plate and took it to the sink. As she set it down, Jake shuffled back into the doorway and leaned there, pale and tired and a little red-eyed. Jade pretended to not notice him right at first, to see how Dirk would react.
Jake made a vague sort of grunt of acknowledgment and raised a hand to wave shortly. He managed a feeble sort of smile.
"Sorry," he croaked absently. Jade was abruptly in front of him without seeming to have walked from the sink to Jake, and was pressing a cup of water into his hand. He grunted again.
As Dirk came closer he'd probably notice the way Jake was nearly hitching like a glitched computer program, with how badly he was shaking. He afforded Dirk a tired smile with his eyes more than anything else, bringing the cup of water to his lips and sipping at it.
"Slowly," Jade instructed, reaching out to smooth his hair absently. Wow, he was a sweaty mess. He didn't particularly want Dirk too close to him, because he was reasonably certain he reeked of vomit even if he'd been entirely clean about it. But at the same time, the contact on his shoulder was really pleasant. He brought his shaking hands down to about his midsection with the cup.
"I'll take a shower in a bit here," he offered. "Sorry to subject you to that, chap."
He laughed thinly, abruptly pressing the cup back into Jade's hands and sliding down the door frame to sit.
"Quite right," he offered. "And if it weren't a bit different sort of intimacy than what you signed up for I'd have you come with me anyway just to help my handicapped self out." He continued to vibrate a bit, there on the floor. Jade sank into a crouch and offered the cup back to him.
"Couch is closer," Jade mentioned lightly, setting the cup of water aside when Jake didn't reclaim it. "I don't think I can support his weight up the stairs. Come on then, Jake." Jake made a sort of catlike sound and shifted, hugging onto the doorframe to hoist himself back up. Jade hovered the entire time, not quite touching him.
He actually made most of the trek to the couch all right on his own, just a bit slowly.
"I'm a right bit of a mess right now," Jake offered with a haphazard smile. He was still pale and sort of sick-looking. "Sorry for inviting you over only to make a mess of things." He reached up and pat Dirk on the arm, though it took him a few tries. "Sleep upstairs, you'll be more comfortable up there."
Jade set his cup of water down on a little table next to the arm of the couch and set a blanket over him. She took his glasses and they joined the cup of water.
Jake's eyes closed over but he continued to smile. "You're sweet," he said quietly. He brought his arm back down to the rest of himself and tucked it under the blanket, shifting around for another handful of seconds before he dropped off into what was best described as a dead sleep.
