"I've never really been a fan of pupp--oh." Well, that sure was a puppet in his lap. He glanced downward. "I think it's the soulless blue eyes staring at me from whatever angle I look at it," he offered, his voice hushed as though Cal might hear him.

"I--. Dirk." Don't leave him here with this puppet, did you not just hear the soulless blue eyes comment he made? SOULLESS, DIRK. He sat very still with Cal in his lap, pointedly looking anywhere but him. He was going to murder you, Dirk Strider.

Jake... hadn't really moved in the time Dirk was gone. If anything he'd just stared at his walls or anything that wasn't Cal.

"Can you please remove this from my person," he requested when Dirk made his way back to the bedroom.

He shuddered a bit, shaking out his arms.

"I make an honest effort to be a part of your life," Jake corrected, but scrunched his face up nontheless. "I just don't like puppets. Your little friend there reminds me far too much of the ventriloquy dummy featured in the Saw films."

Okay, this was tolerable. As long as Dirk wasn't going to expect him to love and embrace the puppet. Because he was not going to love nor was he going to embrace the puppet. Just no. He slid his arm carefully around Dirk's shoulders.

"...feeling any better?"

Jake brought his hand up to gauge his forehead to Dirk's, thinking for a moment.

"You've cooled down a little, but not enough for me to think you're okay yet." He bumped his head sideways into DIrk's, gently. "Just take it easy. There's more soup, I think as long as we keep your fluids up and you don't try to run off gallivanting into the night you should be okay."

"Let's get some soup in you, and then we can see about a shower." He didn't move immediately. "Stay here, I'll bring some back for you." He wasn't sure he wanted Dirk trying the stairs yet.

Jake's eyebrows climbed north for the winter.

"Is that a challenge?" he asked, smirking.

"I thought as much." He bumped his head back against Dirk's and slid away, standing. "You can come along if it bothers you that much."

A snort, at that, and Jake shook his head, moving for the door.

"To soup, then."

Dirk's statement sort of stuck in his mind, belatedly, and he frowned a touch, squeezing the blonde's hand. Was he being clingy? At least the Strider didn't seem to mind too horribly much...? He shook his head a bit, moving for the door with Dirk's hand in his. He could worry about that later. For now, he had some soup to serve.

Jake was pleased with this development. It didn't stop him from reaching sideways on the last step and pulling Dirk off the stairs and spinning him, once-- or for that matter it may have been why he did it. He lingered at the bottom of the steps with him, huddled in his arms with his face in his neck.

...and then he realized what he was doing and set Dirk down, making a face and taking his hand again to lead him into the kitchen.

"Our life just became a musical without music for second there," he laughed nervously.

"You were involved, just... Not prior to the happenstance." He chuckled, bringing Dirk into the kitchen. "Sorry, couldn't have helped your head much." He sat him in a chair and pressed his lips to his forehead.
